Photo by Judy Downing -Steve Naranjo, Jr. and Fred Plimley get ready to broadcast their first show at KCAA.

They’re bringing that back on Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on KCAA 1050 AM with a show that is a mix of Old School, R&B, and a touch of the Oldies.

“We’ll be doing family friendly radio,” said Naranjo, “it’s an upbeat radio show that is involved with the community.”

The show is a labor of love for Naranjo and Plimley, who have known each other for over 30 years. They worked together in radio and doing live events during that time. Listeners may remember their show on KUOR 89.1 FM from 1989 to 2001. For six years they also provided the music and entertainment for all the concerts and dances at the Orange Show.

“Too many shows today play the same music over and over,” said Naranjo. “We plan never to repeat the same song within the whole

set. We’re also going back to the days when people bought albums and enjoyed all the songs, not just the single that topped the charts.”

“We are also going back to our old motto of playing your requests and dedications,” said Plimley. “Kids don’t get that today.”

“One girl was so excited about having her request played on the radio that she told all of the other kids in her school,” said Naranjo.

Naranjo and Plimley are serious about their involvement in the community. Their program last Saturday supported a health fair at a local church. After the show, they stopped by at the American Legion in the city of Colton. Next week after the show, they will be at the Car Show and Harley Bike Show at Ray’s Deli in San Bernardino.

“We will also showcase local talent,” said Naranjo. “No one is really doing that today. There are some great groups currently practicing in their garage. We want to give them exposure.”

“We’re delighted with the support we’re getting from the community,” said Plimley, “We spent a lot of time putting this show together. It’s the right time for something like this.”
