In segment one, Barry interviews Maria Santelli and Bill Gavin of The Center On Conscience and War (CCW). The Center is currently managed by Ms. Santelli. http://centeronconscience.org
CCW has worked tirelessly since its founding in 1940 to protect the rights of conscience for those who cannot participate in the US military. After abolition of the military draft in 1975 and creation of the All Volunteer Force, Congress reinstated registration for possible conscription of young men only in 1980 and found criminal and other penalties to try to enforce compliance.
A process is currently underway to see what to do about this requirement: eliminate it; expand it to include women; or move to a fullblown system of mandatory military and/or national service. The public can comment HERE.
Maria Santelli is the executive director of this organization and Bill Galvin its counseling coordinator. The two join Barry to explain what CCW does today to work with active duty service personnel who want out of the "volunteer" service, how military recruitment is often a scam, and what the future may hold for people who oppose "war in any form".
During segment two, Barry talks with Liz Barnez. Liz is a terrific singer-songwriter who lives in Fort Collins, Colorado. She grew up in New Orleans and began her musical career in the clubs on Bourbon Street, moving to Colorado in the late 1980s and taking that swampy approach to music with her.
