Barry weighs in on the films of 2018. What are the best Hollywood movies, the best documentaries, and the best superhero films? What is wrong with the wildly acclaimed (but not by him) films: "Isle of Dogs" and "Eighth Grade"? He also looks at how film making has changed since he took his own children to the movies in the 80s.
ENDING THE DEATH PENALTY
Is ending the death penalty a progressive or a conservative idea? Maybe both. Diann Rust-Tierney, long time opponent of capital punishment, joins us with an update on how public support for the death penalty is declining dramatically. Ms. Rust-Tierney has been Executive Director of the National Coalition To Abolish the Death Penalty since 2004. Barry and Diann discuss the rise in conservative political and religious opposition to government-sanctioned killing, the recent unanimous decision by the Washington state Supreme Court to end the death penalty, how this issue played out in the recent election cycle, and the next scheduled execution in the United States. Information on the Coalition, resources and how citizens can get directly involved in abolition is at www.ncadp.org and visit their Facebook page HERE
